This years state of the union like the rest of Obamas speeches seemed lethargic. Obama is a masterful politician, but when it comes to leadership he lacks some essential traits. I understand that its not all his fault that Washington has been in a Gridlock for nearly 8 years (since Republicans play a role in that as well), however many seem to forget that for two whole years he had democratic majorities in the both the House and the Senate and he did nothing with that power whats so ever, other then increasing our national debt and prematurely pulling our troops out of Iraq(which led the birth of ISIS).
Today he has lost both the Senate and the House majorities and instead of seeking ways to repair democratic and republican relations he choses to bypass them (and the people) though executive orders. So regarding the state of the union address (through all his efforts to glorify his so-called "achievements" as president), I finally heard one honest statement, he mentioned how he only has one regret of his presidency and it was how he has worsened democratic/republican relations and created and even greater divide in the Washington and the country. For a split second I thought Obama was finally going to take responsibility for something he clearly did wrong...however, this moment was short lived.
He then went on to say that its shouldn't be his sole responsibility to unite the two parties, which struck me as an excuse to counteract his inability of uniting people (a trait thats is vital for effective leadership). Obama is a gifted politician that knows how to spin situations in his favor, which has been evident throughout his presidency and even this year State of the Union.
